Project description (DE)

Sun4Water wird von der Deutschen Klima- und Technologie-Initiative (DKTI) finanziert und unterstützt solarbetriebene Bewässerungssysteme in Malawi, Äthiopien, Kenia, Togo und Mali. Ziel ist es, Kleinbauern, die unter unregelmäßigen Regenfällen leiden, im Rahmen des Nexus Wasser-Energie-Landwirtschaft nachhaltige Lösungen zu bieten

In Zusammenarbeit mit 15 GIZ-Projekten und weiteren Partnern vor Ort führt Sun4Water Schulungen für Trainer und Kleinbauern durch. Dabei kommt die weiterentwickelte Web-Version der Toolbox für solare Bewässerung zum Einsatz. Zudem hilft Sun4Water kleinen Unternehmen, die Solarpumpen vertreiben, ihre Geschäftsmodelle zu optimieren, und erleichtert Kleinbauern sowie Unternehmen den Zugang zu Finanzierungen. Darüber hinaus berät das Vorhaben politische Entscheidungsträger zu strategischen Fragen der solaren Bewässerung, um bessere Rahmenbedingungen zu schaffen.

Durch diesen Ansatz fördert Sun4Water die nachhaltige Verbreitung solarer Bewässerungssysteme. Langfristig trägt dies zu höherer landwirtschaftlicher Produktivität, Ernährungssicherheit und Klimaresilienz in Ost- und Westafrika bei.

 

 

Project description (EN)

Sun4Water, funded by the German Climate and Technology Initiative (DKTI), supports solar-powered irrigation systems in Malawi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Togo, and Mali. The project aims to provide smallholders facing irregular rainfall with sustainable solutions through the water-energy-agriculture nexus.

In collaboration with 15 GIZ projects and further local organisations, Sun4Water supports training programs for trainers and small farmers, using the enhanced web-based version of its solar irrigation toolbox. The initiative also helps small businesses selling solar pumps refine their business models and improves access to financing for both farmers and small businesses. Additionally, Sun4Water advises policymakers on strategic issues related to solar irrigation in order to create better framework conditions.

By promoting the adoption of solar irrigation systems, Sun4Water contributes to long-term agricultural productivity, food security, and climate resilience across East and West Africa.
