Project description (DE)

Brasilien erkennt offiziell 28 Völker mit traditioneller Lebensweise (traditional peoples and communities, PCT) an.

Project description (EN)

Brazilian legislation recognizes 28 traditional peoples and communities (PCT). Thanks to their traditional way of life and their knowledge, PCT are considered the best guardians of the forest, the environment and biodiversity. However, they experience difficulties with land recognition as well as threats and human rights violations.
The lack of reliable data addressing the occupation of traditional territories makes it difficult for the Brazilian state to counteract rights violations. The Traditional Territories Platform (PTT), a digital tool that integrates data regarding the traditional territories in Brasil and was developed since 2018 by the Federal Public Prosecution Office (MPF) and the National Council of Traditional Peoples and Communities (CNPCT), is crucial to protect PCTs in their territories.
The human and environmental rights of traditional peoples and communities in their traditional territories are better protected in Brazil through the use of the Traditional Territories Platform and other digital tools.
The project develops innovative digital and legal solutions for integrating geographical data and enabling automated analysis through the Traditional Territories Platform (PTT), so that the Federal Public Prosecution Office (MPF) and other public bodies can apply the actual and qualified information in their work in the protection of traditional territories. The project also builds up the PTT's governance capabilities for multiplying knowledge and for the effective functioning of registration processes. Additionally, it offers training in the safe use of PTT information. Organisations of PCTs and strategic networks are strengthened. The design and implementation of the project follows the "Leave no one behind" principle enshrined in the 2030 Agenda. All project activities apply a gender-sensitive approach and foresee actions aimed at youth.
