Die Chiquitania ist eine Savannenregion im östlichen Bolivien. Der artenreiche Trockenwald dieser Region gehört zu den größten zusammenhängenden und noch existierenden Trockenwaldökosystemen der Welt.
Durch die anhaltenden Umwandlungen in landwirtschaftliche und viehwirtschaftliche Nutzfläche ist der Bestand der Wälder stark gefährdet. Diese Landnutzungsänderungen haben spürbare Auswirkungen auf das lokale Klima, was vor allem an der zunehmenden Wasserknappheit deutlich wird. Der Hauptgrund des Waldverlustes liegt in der geringen Wertschöpfung der Wälder.

Die wirtschaftlichen und strategisch-politischen Rahmenbedingungen für einen nachhaltigen Walderhalt in der Chiquitania sind verbessert. Umweltschonende und sozialverträgliche Waldbewirtschaftung wird auf einer Fläche von 18.000 Hektar umgesetzt.

Das Vorhaben unterstützt die Einführung von Innovationen sowie den Abbau von regulatorischen Einschränkungen für die Bewirtschaftung des Waldes. Insgesamt soll die Waldbewirtschaftung rentabler werden.
Geplant ist es, neue Methoden in zwölf indigenen Gemeinschaften der Gemeinden San Ignacio de Velasco, Concepción und San Antonio de Lomerio pilothaft umzusetzen. Sie sind darauf ausgelegt, später in weiteren Regionen eingeführt zu werden. Hierbei berät das Projekt sowohl für Holz- als auch Nichtholzprodukte. Indigene Gemeinschaften sollen in ihren administrativen und technischen Kompetenzen gestärkt werden. Dabei sollen auch Genderaspekte Berücksichtigung finden. Das Vorhaben unterstützt weiterhin den Aufbau von Vermarktungsstrukturen in Kooperation mit der Privatwirtschaft.
Der Austausch von Erfahrungen und die Erarbeitung von gemeinsamen Strategien erfolgt durch lokale und nationale Netzwerke. Um eine umweltverträgliche Bewaldung zu fördern, identifiziert das Projekt gemeinsam mit der Forstdirektion des Umwelt- und Wasserministeriums und der Kontrollbehörde für Wald und Land regulatorische Barrieren, damit sie entsprechend angepasst werden.

Seit 2022 unterstützt das Vorhaben zudem das Monitoring der nationalen Klimaschutzbeiträge (NDCs) im Waldbereich und den nationalen Waldfonds FONABOSQUE, um seine Finanzierungsquellen zu erweitern.

Chiquitania is a savannah region in eastern Bolivia. The species-rich dry forest of this region is one of the world’s largest contiguous dry forest ecosystems still in existence today.
The ongoing conversion of forests into land for agriculture and livestock poses a serious threat to their existence. These changes in land use have a noticeable impact on the local climate, as evidenced in particular by the increasing scarcity of water. The main reason for forest loss lies in their low added value.

The economic and strategic-political framework conditions for sustainable forest preservation in Chiquitania have improved. Environmentally friendly and socially acceptable forest management is implemented on an area of 18,000 hectares.

The project supports the introduction of innovations and the removal of regulatory restrictions on forest management. The overall aim is to make forest management more profitable.
The implementation of new methods on a pilot basis in twelve indigenous communities in the municipalities of San Ignacio de Velasco, Concepción and San Antonio de Lomerio is currently being planned. The new methods have been designed in such a way that they can be introduced in other regions at a later date. In this case, the project provides advice on both wood and non-wood products. The intention is to strengthen the administrative and technical capacities of indigenous communities and to take gender aspects into consideration. The project also supports the establishment of marketing structures in cooperation with the private sector.
The sharing of experiences and the development of joint strategies are carried out through local and national networks. In order to promote sustainable afforestation, the project works together with the Forestry Directorate of the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Forest and Land Control Authority to identify regulatory barriers and adapt them accordingly.

Since 2022, the project also supports the monitoring of the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) in the forest area, and the national forest fund FONABOSQUE to expand its funding sources.

La Chiquitanía es una región de sabana en el este de Bolivia. El bosque seco de esta región presenta una gran biodiversidad y es uno de los ecosistemas de bosque seco más grandes que quedan en el mundo.
El territorio forestal se encuentra seriamente amenazado, ya que se producen constantemente conversiones de áreas forestales en tierras de explotación agrícola y ganadera. Estos cambios en el uso del suelo tienen repercusiones notables en el clima local, que se manifiestan sobre todo en la creciente escasez de agua. El motivo principal de la deforestación es la reducida creación de valor de los bosques.

Se han mejorado las condiciones marco económicas y político-estratégicas para una conservación sustentable de los bosques en la Chiquitanía. Se implementa una gestión de bosques compatible con el medio ambiente y los aspectos sociales en una superficie de 18 000 hectáreas.

El proyecto apoya la introducción de innovaciones, así como la reducción de las restricciones reglamentarias para la gestión forestal. En general, el objetivo es mejorar la rentabilidad de la gestión del bosque.
Está previsto implementar nuevos métodos con carácter piloto en doce comunidades indígenas de los municipios de San Ignacio de Velasco, Concepción y San Antonio de Lomerío. La idea es introducirlos posteriormente en otras regiones. En este contexto, el proyecto brinda asesoramiento sobre productos maderables y no maderables. Se fortalecerán las competencias administrativas y técnicas de las comunidades indígenas. En este sentido, también se tendrán en cuenta los aspectos de género. Asimismo, el proyecto apoya la creación de estructuras de comercialización en cooperación con el sector privado.
El intercambio de experiencias y la concepción de estrategias comunes tienen lugar a través de redes locales y nacionales. A fin de fomentar una forestación respetuosa con el medio ambiente, el proyecto identifica los obstáculos reglamentarios para adaptarlos en consecuencia, en cooperación con la Dirección General de Gestión y Desarrollo Forestal del Ministerio de Medio Ambiente y Agua, así como con la Autoridad Plurinacional de la Madre Tierra.

Desde 2022, el proyecto también ha apoyado el seguimiento de las contribuciones nacionales al cambio climático (NDC) en el sector forestal y el fondo forestal nacional FONABOSQUE para ampliar sus fuentes de financiación.
