Ausgangssituation:
Bis 2050 muss die Nahrungsmittelproduktion um 60 Prozent gesteigert werden, um den weltweiten Nahrungsmittelbedarf zu decken. Die aktuellen Produktionsmethoden in Partnerländern gewährleisten oft keine ausreichenden Erträge und Einkommen in der Landwirtschaft. Die Förderung der nachhaltigen Landwirtschaft gehört zu den Zielen der Agenda 2030 für nachhaltige Entwicklung. Bisher ist sie aber erst unzureichend in Programmen und Politikprozessen verankert.

Ziel:
Klimaintelligente, nachhaltige und gendersensitive Ansätze landwirtschaftlicher Produktion und Verarbeitung sind in Programmen und politischen Prozessen verankert.

Vorgehensweise:
Das Sektorvorhaben berät das Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) inhaltlich bei Politikformulierung und Strategieentwicklung für nachhaltige Landwirtschaft sowie bei der fachlichen Beantwortung von Anfragen aus Politik und Öffentlichkeit. Darüber hinaus bereitet es Informationen zu Themen der nachhaltigen Landwirtschaft auf und stellt diese Auslandsprogrammen der deutschen Entwicklungszusammenarbeit sowie der Fachöffentlichkeit zur Verfügung. Es stärkt durch unterschiedliche Fortbildungsmaßnahmen die Kompetenzen von Fachkräften aus Vorhaben und Partnerorganisationen.
Die Beratung erleichtert dem BMZ die Gestaltung von politischen Diskussionen und Prozessen zu nachhaltiger Landwirtschaft in nationalen und internationalen Gremien. Das intensive Wissensmanagement, die Beratung der Auslandsprogramme und die Mitwirkung in Netzwerken fördern die Verbreitung nachhaltig produktiver, an den Klimawandel angepasster Ansätze.

Wirkungen:

Das Vorhaben führt Nachhaltigkeitsanalysen landwirtschaftlicher Betriebe durch und identifiziert Schwachstellen. Aus den Analysen werden Beratungsmaterialien erstellt. Die Verbreitung guter Praktiken in der Pflanzen- und Tierproduktion verbessert die Produktivität der Betriebe. Sie verringert außerdem Nahrungsmittelverluste bei der Produktion, Lagerung und Weiterverarbeitung. Klimaintelligente Maßnahmen stärken die Widerstandsfähigkeit (Resilienz) der Betriebe gegenüber den Auswirkungen des Klimawandels und reduzieren Treibhausgase. Die Einkommen landwirtschaftlicher Produzenten steigen und werden gesichert. Negative Auswirkungen von Landwirtschaft wie Verschlechterung von Böden (Degradierung), Biodiversitätsverlust sowie Schadstoffausträge in Luft und Wasser werden verringert.
Daraus entstehen Entwicklungspotenziale für den ländlichen Raum, die Abwanderungsdruck reduzieren und die Ziele der Agenda 2030 (SDG) fördern: Hungerbekämpfung, Geschlechtergerechtigkeit, Klimaaktion und Leben an Land.

Context
Food production must increase by 60 per cent by 2050 if we are to meet the global demand for food. Current production methods in partner countries often fail to guarantee adequate yields and income in agriculture. Promoting sustainable agriculture is one of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development but has so far been insufficiently mainstreamed in programmes and political processes.

Objective:
Sustainable, climate-smart and gender-sensitive approaches to agricultural production and processing are mainstreamed in programmes and political processes.

Approach:
The sector project advises the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on policy content and strategy development for sustainable agriculture as well as on responding to questions posed by policy-makers and the general public on the subject. In addition, it prepares information on issues relating to sustainable agriculture and makes this available not only to German development cooperation programmes but also to experts. Thanks to its various training measures, the sector project develops the capacity of experts involved in other projects and from partner organisations.
The advisory services help BMZ to shape political discussions and processes relating to sustainable agriculture in national and international bodies. By carrying out intensive knowledge management, advising projects and programmes in partner countries and participating in networks, the sector project promotes the dissemination of approaches that raise productivity sustainably and are adapted to climate change.

Results:
The project is carrying out sustainability analyses of farms and identifying deficiencies. The analyses are then used to create advisory materials. The dissemination of good practices in crop and livestock production is leading to improved farm productivity, as well as a reduction in food losses both in the production phase and during storage and downstream processing. Climate-smart measures are strengthening the resilience of farms against the impact of climate change and are reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The income of agricultural producers is increasing and being secured. The negative effects of agriculture, such as soil degradation, loss of biodiversity and the release of pollutants into the air and water, are also being reduced. The resulting development potential for rural areas is reducing pressure on local people to migrate and promoting a number of goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, namely ending hunger, achieving gender equality, taking action on climate change and sustaining life on land.
